2007 Rally on the River!
Speaking for myself, the one and only Motorcycle Web Chik, I had a ball at the 2007 Rally on the River at Green's Canoe Rental this past weekend. Hey, I got to continue to drool over the 2007 Hyosung GV250 in Silver and Black that I don't even know how to ride but would love to take home. I'm surprised Slam still has it. Y'think maybe it's just waiting for me to stop hesitating and snap it up?
I was lucky enough to be the bass player for the band, Memphis Smith, which also includes my hubby, Rick, on lead guitar and our buddy, Charlie, who really knows how to get some cool sound of of his 1937 National res-o-phonic (I think I spelled that right). If you don't know what a res-o-phonic is, Charlie'd be happy to tell you all about it. Thanks again, Skip, for providing me a lamp on Friday night so I could see where my fingers were going. Unlike my sweetie and Charles, I've only been playing bass for a short time and haven't developed the "feel" of those notes yet. I still have to look at the fretboard to make sure I'm making the right note!
Friday night found our band of motorcycle enthusiasts gathered under and around the awning that housed the beer kegs. Imagine that....! Needless to say, they were an appreciative audience and we all had a blast. We got there after the burgers and hot dogs had already been devoured and had to stop at McDonald's on the way home. Slam made some crack about "the contract" when we came straggling up in the dark to set up our stuff but I'm pretty confident that we fulfilled our musical obligations before the weekend was over.
We did make it in time Saturday evening to watch Greg Land, El Presidente, hand out some hard earned "trophies" to various attendees. My hat's definitely off to the young feller of 85 who came out for the festivities. Once a motorcycle enthusiast, always a motorcycle enthusiast!
The fireworks show on Saturday night was AWESOME! Rick and I agreed that what we saw was probably the best fireworks display we'd ever seen before. I got some pretty cool photos, too, and I'll be posting them on the website soon (and sending some to you, too, Skip!)
Enough from me. Let's hear from the REAL motorcycles riders, guys AND gals, who made it out for the Rally this past weekend. Personally, I can't wait for next year!

Hi, we made it out to the rally all the way from Wisconsin, although we took a little good-natured ribbing for trailering our Royal Enfield with the sidecar. A big hats off to the guy from Michigan who not only rode the farthest to the rally but he did it on a Royal Enfield!
Anyway, we enjoyed the tunes, the fireworks, the food, the beer, and of course the riding. Cruising the surrounding hills and Meramac Springs Park was awesome and the weather could not have been better. Saturday nights events were great and we finally had to run back to the B&B because we were nodding off at the bonfire listening to the music.
In the words of the Governator - We'll be back!
Let me wade in here ... the 2007 Rally on the River was the best yet-and I'm qualified to opine because I've been at every one since the first in 2001.
Every year, during the week and hours just prior to the opening of the rally i tell my lovely wife Mary "This will be the last !!!" But, by the end of the rally I find myself hardly able to wait till we can all get together again. This year is no exception, I'm already laying plans for Rally on the River 2008.
A big thanks goes out to all of the Heartland Moto Guzzi Owners who pitched in, rolled up their sleeves and made it all work seemlessly, especially Larry and Theresa, Greg and Paula and my closest and loyalist ally Mary Dunkus who I love more and more every day.
A big thank you and OOH-RAH to Skip Hajek and his crew from Green's for all that they do to make us welcome.
Special thanks goes to Kevin Mahoney owner of Classic Motorworks who has, like me, been at every rally since it's humble beginnings. Thanks for all you have done to put Royal Enfield on the American motorcycling scene. It would have NEVER happened without your stewardship!
Major recognition goes to Kevin Kelsch, general manager of GOLDEN BEAR FIREWORKS in Stanton, MO for the wildest, most beautiful and highest energy fireworks display many attendees told me that they had EVER seen. SPECTACULAR !! Thanks Kevin.
Appreciation to Memphis Smith for the campfire side acoustic blue grass on both Friday and Saturday nights. Hey ... how 'bout that cute bass player ???
Most of all I want to extend thanks to all of the attendees who year after year turn the weekend into a blast, and what do you know, Chris Janes really does have an Enfield. We had a good crowd this year and it was good to visit with and spend a little time riding with you all. Hope you'll come by next year, same place and same weekend (last weekend in September 2008) and we will do it all over again!
